Portable Nuclear Moisture-Denisty Gauge Service

Q & A

Frequently asked questions

Who is Duane Hevly? Duane Hevly owns and operates Hevly Technical Services from a small shop in Phoenix AZ to service portable nuclear gauge owners in the Southwest USA. He operates alone with no employees. Almost everything that a gauge owner needs Duane can provide. Several years ago, he sold a gauge service center to Steve and Debbie Jacks. They changed the name to Northwest Technical Services and moved it outside of Seattle Washington. Why should a gauge owner or operator do business with him? For some out of the Phoenix area locations he will drive his service trailer to your door and save you the cost and hassle of shipping dangerous goods. He won’t spend your money until he has your permission. He will explain the any gauge problems, provide the options for a remedy and let you make an informed decision. You won’t get a surprise invoice after he leaves with charges that were not authorized. How far will he travel and will we have to release physical possession of the gauge? Contact Duane and identify your location and how many gauges need service. It becomes a simple matter of economics and time. The calibration fee is $350 plus a $200 per diem fee to cover mileage, meals and motel away from the Phoenix metro area. Gauges are kept at the licensed storage location. The gauge owner’s RSO authorizes Duane to service the gauges on- site. What is an on-site “three block” calibration? Away from the Phoneix shop Hevly pulls a service trailer with a set of three banded density blocks and a high moisture block all manufactured by CPN. The block values are about 108pcf, 135pcf and 165pcf plus a fourth block used to calibrate moisture content at 23pcf. Calibrating a gauge takes place after it has been serviced and it usually takes three to four hours from start to finish for each gauge. Only one gauge is calibrated at a time. He has the training and experience to service Troxler, InstroTek, Humboldt and CPN gauges. Does Hevly still own stock in CPN International, Inc? No. He was a minor share holder for about ten years. Jerry Woodbury owned the balance then sold the CPN company to Instrotek.
